Our Plans
America's Freedom Center Foundation is planning for, and preparing to restore the historic Ward Memorial Theater, located in the Soldiers Home Historic District on the Zablocki VA Medical Center grounds in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The restored theater will maintain its original architecture; America's Freedom Center is committed to preserving the authenticity of the building. When completed, the venue will provide interactive educational experiences focusing on the abstract concept of freedom and the efforts of Americans in defense of this freedom throughout our nation's history.
Through interactive documentaries, theatrical productions and new technologies, visitors will engage in history and learn through experience. From the Revolutionary War to the present day, visitors will be immersed in a variety of settings. Whether trekking through the trenches of World War I, taking part in the Civil Rights activities of the 1960s or being transported back to the times of slavery in our country; visitors will come to better understand the role of history in shaping our freedom.
Individuals throughout the country and around the world will be able to visit America’s Freedom Center, virtually, through distance learning channels. Additionally, America’s Freedom Center Foundation is in the process of developing and piloting other educational outreach programs that will be available to classes that may be unable to visit the Center, or those desiring classroom activities and standards-based curriculum to complement a visit to the Center.
The Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center Grounds
The history of the VA grounds, as captured by the headstones of the more than 37,000 veterans buried in Wood National Cemetery, will provide an ideal backdrop for America's Freedom Center.
The first phase of America's Freedom Center will be marked by the renovation of the historic Ward Memorial Theater. The restored theater will provide a variety of interactive learning experiences, facilitated by the use of technology such as wireless keypads.
